This extremely hot summer has prompted the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), to launch a public awareness campaign. People who work outdoors are being asked to be aware of heat hazards and the safeguards against them.
Employers with outdoor businesses, such as landscape contractors, are being asked to help make sure their workers are taking necessary precautions. These include taking frequent rest breaks in the shade and staying hydrated.
Outdoor employees are among those most vulnerable to serious and potentially deadly heat-related illnesses. More information on heat-related illness and prevention tips can be found on OSHA’s website, at http://www.osha.gov/SLTC/heatillness/index.html.
