ServiceMaster, the Memphis, Tennessee company which includes the TruGreen lawn care division, reported a one-half of one percent decline in operating revenue for the second quarter of 2012. Results were $962 million, compared to $967.4 million for the same period last year.
According to CEO Hank Mullany in a published report, the TruGreen division continues to improve in operating performance due to lower sales and marketing costs, but revenues have declined somewhat as the company moved toward full-year treatment programs.
Moving from partial service programs to full-year makes economic sense for the firm, Mullany said, but the change affected overall customer numbers. The number of customers slipped by 13.8 percent. Mullany says he still feels good about the overall direction for the division.
