Many landscape contractors, as well as irrigation contractors, are not familiar with some new suggested proposals that the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) is preparing for its second draft of its WaterSense Water Efficient Single-Family New Home Specification, which is coming up in the very near future.
We would like to give you a link, so that you can read the proposal yourself. Just "CLICK HERE" and the proposal will come on-screen. You can, of course, also print it out.
We believe that some of these proposals will be written into the specification. It is our feeling that this will further impact our industry.
Some of the areas that could affect your company are the minimum width of planting turfgrass, limiting what should be planted on slopes, and of course, the amount of water to be used. It’s not just the impact this could have in the future; some of the proposals are not realistic.
Glance through the proposal. Although it is written as a guide for the irrigation portion, and is voluntary at this time, I strongly urge you review it. I believe you will find politicians really don’t understand business….in this case the landscape and irrigation markets.
You still have time to make your comments known to the EPA. Simply copy the template and send it to: watersense-newhomes@erg.com The deadline is July 7th; however, even if you comment later, at least let them know of your concern.
