Leisure Landscapes Awarded Environmental Grant

Leisure Landscapes was selected as a recipient of the 2008 Mobile Source Emissions Grants by the North Carolina Department of Environment and Natural Resources (NCDENR). The Division of Air Quality awarded the grant for Leisure Landscape’s submission to use propane as an alternate fuel for its lawn mowing equipment. The announcement came today from William G. Ross, Jr. whose department administered the grant selection process. The contract is for one-year term and takes effect July, 2008. “We are excited about your proposed project to convert lawn equipment to propane” says Mr. Ross, and “look forward to working with you on this worthwhile endeavor.” The project encompasses five phases: Identification of sources, planning and design, construction & conversion, documentation and evaluation. EnvirGard has been identified and selected as the supplier of the propane Vapor Fuel System. They will be converting the existing mower fleet and providing training to the Leisure Landscapes crews. The NCDENR grant will go toward the equipment purchase. Propane was selected because it is the cleanest fuels. It reduces emissions up to 90% and boosts fuel economy by 10%. Because it is so clean, it is projected to cut engine maintenance time in half.
