Mama Means Business with Landscape Return

| Latest News

After about a decade spent raising her children, Valerie Young decided it was time to jump back into the landscape industry. She recently launched Young’s LawnScape based in Walton, Indiana, a new landscape design, installation and maintenance service.

Young operated Kelly Creek Landscaping, her former business, for about a decade before shutting down in the early 2000s to focus more time on raising her children. Her interest in the landscape profession began, she said, after high school when she earned an associate degree in horticulture from Vincennes University. That was back in 1993, the same year she launched Kelly Creek.

While Kelly Creek was also a greenhouse and nursery, Young’s new business will not include those elements, she said. Although the new company is starting small, as a mother and entrepreneur, Young is no stranger to hard work. She hopes to expand over the busy summer months by taking on a couple of seasonal employees.
