Counties Push Electric Mowers for Residents

| Latest News

South Carolina is taking a proactive role in an effort to move its citizens from pollution-causing gas-powered lawn mowers to greener mowers powered by electricity. The state Department of Health and Environmental Control is sponsoring “lawn mower exchanges” in eleven South Carolina counties this spring.

At these exchanges, consumers can bring in their gas mowers, which will be collected, scrapped, and then recycled.

In exchange, a designated mower vendor or vendors will sell them electric or other ‘green’ mowers and other power tools at a subsidized price.  Even if the consumer does not have a gas mower to exchange, s/he can buy green mowers at a discount.

In 2011, participating companies included Black & Decker, C Enterprise, The Green Station, Neutron, and Reel Mowers.
