A St. Louis, Missouri landscape contractor has been indicted on federal immigration charges. A grand jury has charged Robert Brake, and his company Brake Landscaping & Lawncare, with illegally using immigrant workers at a payment rate of $2 per hour.
The workers were employed by Brake under the national H-2B program, which allows immigrants to work on a one-time, temporary basis. Brake allegedly devised a scheme to maintain those workers here in America full-time, and even created a snow removal business.
The maximum penalty for Brake, if convicted, will be five years imprisonment and/or fines up to a quarter million dollars.
