A recent massive rainstorm has led, at least temporarily, to the end of drought restrictions in Houston, Texas. The downpour was part of a wet weather pattern that has dropped 10 inches of rain at the city’s airport and brought reservoirs back to 89 percent of full.
For the past five months, city water restrictions turned many local lawns brown. Neighbors reported neighbors for violations, city workers handed out warnings, and signs were posted in residential neighborhoods detailing the regulations.
According to a press release from the mayor’s office, Houston is not entirely out of the woods. The news release said that since the city’s reservoirs could still enter summer at lower levels than even last summer, “there is a likeliness that conservation measures will need to be reinstated.”
