Irrigation Contractor Indicted for Hiring Illegals

| Latest News

Southern state crackdowns on employers who hire illegal workers reached Paul and Barbara Love, owners of Love Irrigation, Ridgeland, Mississippi, in the form of multi-count federal indictments. The couple was charged in United States District Court in Jackson, Mississippi, with five counts of conspiracy to defraud the United States, bringing in and harboring illegal immigrants, encouraging illegal immigrants to reside in the U.S. and misuse of Social Security numbers.

The couple allegedly employed undocumented workers in their irrigation business from 2003 through 2010.

They were arraigned in November and forced to forfeit $220,109.67 from their business accounts with First Commercial Bank. Both of the Loves are currently out of jail on $10,000 bonds.

The Loves’ jury trial was slated to begin on January 9, but has since been adjourned until April 2 as a result of a defense motion for additional time to prepare. If convicted, Paul Love faces up to 30 years in federal prison and a $1.25 million fine. Barbara Love faces a maximum of 40 years in federal prison, a $1.5 million fine and five years’ probation.
