Survey Says: Landscapers Criticize New Grads

| Latest News

A new survey of landscape architects reveals that while a majority  believe themselves to have at least average knowledge of plants and horticulture, they’re critical of their newly gradated peers when it comes to the same arena.

Researchers at Mississippi State University sent the 20-question survey to landscape architects across the southeast, asking a range of questions.

When it came to horticulture, 48% of the respondents admitted to “average” plant knowledge, but 73% said that new graduates from university programs didn’t measure up when it came to horticulture. About the same number said that the entire profession was less connected to plants and horticulture than it had been in previous years.

The entire survey results can be found in the latest edition of HortTechnology.

I've worked with several landscape architects since the 70's.  I didn't think, collectively, that it was possible for them to get any worse than they already are, as to plant knowledge.
