Subaru Industrial Power Products suffered a great loss recently when Jay Peck, longtime company president, passed away after a brief and quiet battle with cancer. He was 59 years old.
Peck began his career in the industry while attending college at the University of Wisconsin at White Water, spending his summers working for Teledyne Total Power’s Power Center outlet store in New Berlin, Wisconsin. After graduating UW with a degree in business management, Peck joined the company full time.
At the age of 34, he became the youngest vice president in Teledyne’s history. In 1988, Peck began his association with the company he’d spend the next 23 years with. He assumed the responsibility for the sale of Robin engines.
Peck left TTP in 1991 to start his own company. His wife Lynn took over the business in 1993 when he was chosen to lead the team that would plan and open Robin America in Wood Dale, Illinois. In 1996, he took over the role of president.
Peck led Robin America to become one of the leading suppliers of small industrial engines. Robin America is a wholly-owned subsidiary of Fuji Heavy Industries, the manufacturer of Subaru industrial engines and power products.
Brad Murphy, Subaru’s vice president of sales and marketing, released a statement on behalf of the company. “We are deeply saddened by the loss of Jay. This is a tragedy beyond measure, not just for us here at Subaru, but for our entire industry. We’ve lost more than a leader, colleague and visionary. We’ve lost a friend.”
JCB Officially Marks 65 Years
JCB, a manufacturer of outdoor power equipment headquartered in Staffordshire, England, officially celebrated its 65th anniversary by presenting thousands of employees around the world with gifts to mark the occasion.
The company was founded in 1945 by Joseph Cyril Bamford (JCB) in a Uttoxeter lock-up garage. It has since grown to include 18 plants on four continents, including JCBUSA, based in Pooler, Georgia.
JCB manufactures more than 300 different machines, including, backhoe loaders, tracked and wheeled excavators, wheel loaders, articulated dump trucks, rough terrain forklifts, mini excavators and skid steers loaders.
Toro Announces Acquisiton
Lawn Solutions will continue to make the equipment in Louisville for Toro. Lawn Solutions and Toro have had a private label agreement since 2010 for a walk-behind aerator and seeder.
Michael Drazan, vice president of Toro’s Contractor Business, said, “Turf renovation is a natural category for Toro. These products complement our brands and markets extremely well while extending our offering to customers worldwide.”
David Cook, owner of Lawn Solutions, will continue to consult with Toro.
Morbark Adds Dealers
Morbark, Winn, Michigan, recently announced the addition of six dealers.
Columbus Equipment Company, Columbus, Ohio, Bartlett Manufacturing, Marlette Michigan, and White Star Machinery, Tulsa, Oklahoma, will all carry Morbark tree care products.
Fabick Caterpillar, with locations in eastern Missouri and southern Illinois, Schmidt Equipment dealerships in Massachusetts and Rhode Island, and Elliott and Frantz dealers in Maryland and Delaware will carry the lines of tree care, forestry and recycling products.
FINN Expands Dealer Base
FINN Corporation recently announced the addition of several fullline dealers for its equipment line, including its line of bark blowers and TRU-Mulch material products.
Road Machinery LLC, Phoenix, Arizona, is now the full-line dealer, covering the Southwest U.S., including Arizona, New Mexico, Southern California, and Western Texas.
Martin Implement Sales, Inc., Orland Park, Illinois, will cover ten counties in northeastern Illinois, as well as the northwest Indiana counties of Lake and Porter, through its dealerships in Orland Park and South Elgin.
Burnsville, Minnesota-based Tri- State Bobcat, Inc. will represent the FINN product lines in the upper Midwest, including Minnesota and western Wisconsin.
