Water Agencies Offer Money to Remove Lawns

| Latest News

A lawn-removal incentive program is being offered by the Municipal Water District of Orange County, California, along with the Metropolitan Water District of Southern California and 19 local California retail water agencies. It is designed to boost water conservation and reduce runoff.

Water customers are eligible to receive at least $1 per square foot of lawn removed--up to a maximum of 10,000 square feet--provided certain criteria are met, including covering all exposed soil with a 2” to 3” layer of mulch.

Other provisions of the Turf Removal Program include the use of low-volume irrigation for the remaining lawn areas, and making sure that no invasive plant species are used.
