NAACP Says Labor Allegations are False

| Latest News

Numerous civil rights groups and union leaders recently spoke out against Vanderbilt Landscaping in Nashville, Tennessee, over allegations that it mistreated its guest workers. The NAACP is now coming to its defense, however, calling a press conference in Nashville to announce that the company had done nothing wrong.

An employee, along with a labor advocacy group, recently accused Vanderbilt Landscaping of forcing him to work in extreme conditions and to work more than 40 hours a week with no overtime.

A woman claiming to be a representative of the NAACP was also there. The NAACP now says that this woman did not represent their organization.

“We already know that the Vanderbilts have suffered significantly on the basis of these unsubstantiated claims,” said Marilyn Robinson of the Tennessee NAACP.

The civil rights group said at least two of the owners at Vanderbilt Landscaping have paid the price for the allegations. One man was suspended from a volunteer coaching position with his son’s basketball team; he said it was because of the bad press surrounding his business.
