More than a dozen unlicensed contractors were caught in an undercover sting operation in northern California. One suspect was snared twice in as many months for illegally doing business in Fresno and Madera counties, according to the California Contractors State License Board.
State investigators posed as homeowners and invited unlicensed operators to bid on electrical, flooring, tile, fencing, landscaping and concrete projects. Suspects who bid more than $500 for jobs were charged with unlicensed contracting and ordered to appear in court.
During the sting, two suspects were taken to jail on outstanding warrants. The charges ranged from a DUI to child support violations to automobile theft. Another suspect is on probation for a federal drug charge.
If convicted, each could be ordered to pay a fine and face possible jail time.
