Cities Modify Water Conservation Programs

|

Water providers and city officials in Paso Robles and Atascadero, California, have recently made changes to their water conservation efforts.

Last April, Atascadero Mutual Water Company (AMWC) cut water use up to 35 % because of drought conditions. Approximately 30,000 people reduced their water use by 15% percent during the summer months.

As a result, AMWC officials lifted mandatory limits on lawn watering.

Paso Robles is keeping its watering restrictions; however, new programs will be in place to make compliance easier. The city now offers free customer water surveys for homes and businesses. Customers can request a water representative to visit their property and discuss ways to cut down on water use. The city will also install low-flow showerheads and toilet repair kits at no cost.

Officials have also begun a rebate program of up to $125 for customers who install low-flush toilets and will give customers a 50-cents-per-sq.-ft rebate to replace existing turf with low-water-use landscaping.
