Judge Delays Installation of Artificial Turf

| Latest News

While many public high schools nationwide are replacing their athletic field’s natural grass with artificial turf, an Atlanta, Georgia superior court judge has prohibited the Cobb County school district from doing the same.

District voters approved a special sales tax to fund the $586 million project, but a lawsuit was filed seeking to stop the turf installation.

Proponents claim the playing fields are not an education-related expense, as required by law, and that the money raised cannot be used for the purchase and installation of artificial turf. Supporters argue that the use of athletic fields is for educational purposes.

The judge granted an injunction, which will delay the installation until a decision can be made sometime in the future.
