Texas Officials Challenge EPA Authority

| Latest News

The Texas Governor, State Attorney General and Agriculture Commissioner have joined forces to challenge the Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA) authority to regulate greenhouse gases.

The EPA ruled recently that greenhouse gases were harmful to the environment, despite scientific evidence that shows this hypothesis is not necessarily true.

Because of the ruling, the EPA is planning to use the Clean Air Act to create greenhouse gas emissions limits, which could mean costly mandates for farmers and ranchers.

The Texas State Attorney General has filed a legal challenge that will focus on the inadequacies of the process EPA followed in triggering Clean Air Act regulation. In addition, the group has filed a petition which says, among other issues, that the EPA failed to perform the precise study required, and instead relied on flawed theories and faulty data to reach their ruling.
