South Freezes--Backflows Burst

The demand for backflow prevention devices, especially the one inch size, has skyrocketed. The recent freezes in South Texas through Northern Florida have caused an emergency of major concern. Backflow prevention devices have been cracking because of the freeze.

Pressure vacuum breakers, anti-siphon valves, and RPZs (Reduced Pressure Zone) are in short supply. Manufacturers have been asking their distributors that are not affected by that freeze to ship their inventory of these devices to the areas affected. The distributors that do ship their backflow devices will have them replenished before their season begins.

One contractor, in the Houston area, has purchased 275 backflow devices to be able to respond to his customers. These units sell for a few hundred dollars each.

I am so thankful that Wilkins had replacement backflow product available. They are a top notch company and they are here for me when I need them most. Obviously they still care about our industry and I am switching all my business to their valves.
